Case-1: On Windows
Follow the steps below if you are using the Windows OS.
1. Click on the Backup and Sync icon on the status bar. A white cloud with an arrow is present at the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Note: If you don’t see the Backup and Sync icon, click on the upward-pointing arrow to see more icons.
2. Click on ⁝ from the top-right.
3. To pause the upload process, click the Pause option.
Case-2: On macOS
Follow the steps below if you are using macOS.
1. Click the Backup and Sync icon, which resembles a cloud with an arrow at the top-right corner of the home screen. A new menu will expand.
2. Click on ⁝ from the top-right corner.
3. To pause the upload process, click on the Pause option, and to resume it, click the Resume option.
Case-3: On Android
1. Open the Drive app on your Android phone. It’s usually found on the home screen or the app manager.
2. Select each file you wish to upload. You’ll notice a blue and white checkmark at the top-left corner of each selected file. Check out the screenshot below.

3. Tap from the top of the screen.
4. Choose Upload.

5. Finally, select Save. Now, the upload process will start for all the selected items.
6. Now, the progress bar in the notification area shows the number of files downloaded.
7. Tap on the blue circle with a white arrow that is present after the progress bar.
8. If you want to pause the upload process, tap the pause button for the respective files.

Note:
- You can tap the Upload paused option to resume or restart the upload process.
- Tap the X option for the respective files to stop the upload process completely.
It is tricky with no pause, but cancel functions the same way on PC/Mac
Many times during the upload process, you need to pause your upload. The UI only shows you a “Cancel” button. But the tricky note is that this button essentially provides a way to pause an upload on Google Drive. If you hover over the “!” button after you click ‘Cancel,’ you can retry the download. This will start where you left off if the download is in process.
