How To Make A Graph On Google Docs? Follow the below steps to create a graph/chart in Google Docs.
- Open your Google Docs document.
- Click on File –> New –> Spreadsheet.
- Enter the chart data in the spreadsheet.

How To Make A Graph On Google Docs
As discussed, we can build a graph or chart on Google Docs with the help of a Google Spreadsheet. The process involved here is entering your data in a Google Spreadsheet, Selecting the data that you want to use in a graph, and finally inserting a graph.
For a PC, Chromebook, or Mac
Follow the below steps.
- Navigate to https://docs.google.com/ and click on the + (Blank) button to create a blank Google Document. You can also open any existing document where you want to insert a Graph.
- Click on the File –> Select New –> Click on the Spreadsheet to open the spreadsheet.

3. Now, a blank Google Sheet will open, as shown below.

4. Provide the input data in the sheet.

5. Now select all the cells that contain data –> Click on the Insert menu –> Select the Chart option as highlighted below.

6. Now, as you can see below, the chart has been generated with all the data provided as input.

7. Now is the time to copy the chart. If you are using a PC, you can use Ctrl + C, and if you are using macOS, you can press CMD+C.
Or, you can also click on the three dots(…) –> select the Copy chart option to copy the chart as highlighted below.

8. Now that you have copied the chart from the Google SpreadSheet, it’s time to paste it in your Google Docs. Now, go back to Google Docs and right-click on the place where you want to paste the graph. You can right-click—> select the paste option. Or, you can press Ctrl + V from the Keyboard.
9. Once you paste the graph on Google Docs, you will see the Paste chat window, where you will see two options: Link to the spreadsheet and Paste unlinked. If you are linking to the spreadsheet, when you change any data, it will reflect in the Graph.
Select the appropriate option based on your requirement and then click on the Paste button.

10. Now, the graph has been added successfully to Google Docs, as shown below.

How To Modify Chart Type In Google Docs
Well, once you have added the chart to your Google Docs if you want to modify or edit the chart or graph in Google Docs like the chart type and other properties you can follow the below steps.
11. Select the chart on the Google Docs –> Click on the Linked Chart Options button –> then click on the Open source link as highlighted below.

12. Now it will take a few seconds and will open the Source Spread Sheet where the chart actually exists, click on the three dots (…) –> then click on the Edit chart option as highlighted below.

How To Make A Pie Graph On Google Docs
Follow the below instructions to create a Pie chart or graph in Google Docs
13. On the Chart editor window, select the chart type as Pie chart based on your requirement.

14. Now, once we have selected the chart type option as Pie chart, you can able to see the chart is now changed to Pie chart in the Google Sheet.

15. Now to update the pie chart in Google Docs, Navigate to Google Docs, click on the Update button as highlighted below.

16. Now you can able to see below, the chart has been updated to Pie chart on our Google Docs.

How To Make A Line Graph/chart On Google Docs
1. Follow the step- 1 to step- 12 from the above section and then the below steps.
2. On the Chart editor window, select the chart type as Line Chart as shown below.

3. Now, navigate to Google Docs and click on the UPDATE button to update the changes that we have made on the source now.

4. You can able to see below, the Line Graph has been added to Google Docs successfully.

How To Make A Bar Graph/Chart On Google Docs
1. You can follow the step- 1 to 12 from the above section and then the below steps.
2. On the Chart editor window, select the chart type as Bar Chart as shown below.

3. Now, navigate to Google Docs and click on the UPDATE button to update the changes that we have made on the source Google Sheet now.

4. You can able to see below, the Bar Graph has been added to Google Docs successfully.

How To Make A Scatter Graph/Chart On Google Docs
1. Follow the step- 1 to 12 from above and then follow the below steps.
2. On the Chart editor window, select the chart type as Scatter Chart as shown below.

3. Now, navigate to Google Docs and click on the UPDATE button to update the changes that we have made on the source now.

4. You can able to see below, the Scatter Graph has been added to Google Docs successfully.

How To Make An Area Graph On Google Docs
- Follow the step- 1 to Step- 12 from above.
- On the Chart editor window, select the chart type as Area Chart as shown below.

3. Now, you need to navigate to Google Docs and click on the UPDATE button to update the changes that we made on the source Google sheet.

4. As you can see below, the Area Graph has been successfully added to Google Docs.

How to Create a Graph in Google Docs on Android or iPhone
Building a graph in Google Docs on Android or iPhone is slightly different than creating a graph or chart on a PC. But easy to create.
Before you start, as prerequisites, make sure that you have installed the Google Sheet and Google Docs app on your android device or iPhone.
Assuming, you are ready with the Prerequisites needed here, let’s follow the below instructions to make a graph in Google Docs on Android or iPhone.
- The first step is to open the Google Sheets app.
- You provide the input data in the sheet that you want to use in the chart.
- Now select all the cells that contain data.
- From the top menu, tap on the “plus(+)” icon.
- The next step is to tap on the “Chart” option.
- Now, the chart will be generated. Tap the checkmark icon at the top left corner to save the chart.
- Now that our chart is ready on Google Sheets, it’s time to import it to your Google Docs.
- Open the Google Docs app on your mobile and create a document there.
- Now, the idea here is to open the site in a Desktop View, so open google.com in any of your favorite browsers. You should be on the Google Docs main page.
- To open the desktop version, click on the browser’s menu button—> click on the Desktop version, Desktop site, or Request Desktop Website option.
- Now, on Google Docs, tap on the place where you want to add the graph.
- The next step is to tap on the Insert menu from the top—> Tap on the Chart option—> Tap the From Sheets option.
- Select the Google Sheet from the lists that actually contain the chart.
- Now, tap on the “Select” button on the next popup.
- Now tap on the chart from the Google sheet that you want to insert in your Google Docs.
- Finally, click on the “Import” button from the next popup.
- Now, you should be able to see the chart on your Google Docs.
How To Edit The Legend In Google Docs
Now, we will see how to edit the legend for the graph in Google Docs by following the below steps
1. To edit the legend in Google Docs, follow steps 1 to 12 from above, and then you need to follow the below steps.
2. On the Chart Editor window, click on the Customize tab, Expand the Legend property, Choose the Position, and Change the Legend font, Legend font size, Legend text color, etc., according to your needs.

3. Now, navigate to your Google Docs and click on the Update button to get the updated changes for the legend.

4. Below, you can see that the changes we made to the legend are successfully applied to the Google Docs graph.
