How do you create a Contract template in Google Docs using add-ons?

First, you need to install the ‘Templates for Docs’ Google Docs Add-ons. To install the add-on, follow the below quick steps.

  1. Open your Google Docs document.
  2. Click on Extensions –> Add-ons –> Get add-ons.
  3. Search for ‘Templates for Docs’ and then click on the same add-on from the list.
  4. Now, click on the Install button as shown in the below screenshot. Then click on Continue on the next pop-up, choose your Google account –> click on the Allow button, and Finally, click on the Done button on the last pop-up.

So, we successfully installed the ‘Templates for Docs’ Google Docs add-on.

To create a Contract template in Google Docs using add-ons, follow the steps below.

1. Open your Google Docs document.

2. Navigate to the menu bar and click ‘Extensions’> ‘Templates for Docs’ > ‘Browse Templates’. Check out the screenshot below.

Now, the “Browse templates” window is opened. 

4. On the left side, the ‘Free’ is in the blue button. Under each category, different templates are available. You can find the “Contract templates” under the ” Legal. Check out the screenshot below.

Note: If you want to translate the document to another language, click ‘Tools’ and select ‘Translate a document.’ The translate document window will pop up on your screen. Choose a language you want to translate and select the ‘Translate’ blue button. The Contract template is translated into your language.

How to create a Contract template in Google Docs from a third-party source?

You can download and reuse a Contract template already available on Google. To create a Contract template format in Google Docs using third-party providers, follow the below steps.

1. Open Google Docs and sign in to your account.

2. Create a blank Document.

How to create a Contract template in Google Docs from scratch?

To create a Contract template in Google Docs from scratch, follow the below steps.

1. Open Google Docs and sign in to your account.

2. Open a blank document in Google Docs in which you want to create your Contract template in Google Docs. 

3. Start creating a Contract template in Google Docs. To start with, navigate to the menu bar at the top of the screen, click ‘File’ > “page setup,” check the orientation and make it portrait, and leave all other options the same. You can adjust the different margins and page colors that suit your needs. See the below screenshot.

4. Unlike Microsoft Word, there is no option to add borders directly in Google Docs. You can create a border using the table. To do so, click ‘Insert’ in the menu bar and click “table-1×1”. Check out the screenshot below.

Now drag the bottom line of the table down to adjust the size to fill the whole page. In the right corner of the table, there is a down arrow.   Select “Row 1. Column 3. Select Outer Borders” from the list. Click the table and adjust its size and style.

5. Next, consider the backbone of any contract template, “The Font.” We should only use “Times New Roman (along with Arial and Helvetica),” which is available in Google Docs.

This is the standard font considered for all the contract and legal documents. The font size should be between 10 and 12. Please note that you should not use giddy fonts

6. To create a horizontal line before the sign, go to the ‘Insert’ tab and click “New Drawing”. Once the drawing tool is open, click the line tool to create a horizontal line. Adjust the size of your line and place it at the bottom. 

7. At the end of the contract template, All parties must agree with the terms and conditions and about an offer made by one party that the other party should accept. The signature section of a contract is also called the signature block.

To create a horizontal line before the sign, go to the ‘Insert’ tab and click “New Drawing”. Once the drawing tool is open, click the line tool to create a horizontal line. Adjust the size of your line and place it at the bottom. Create a text box to mention the title of the person signing it. See the below screenshot.

We can also create a text box on the top of the line and use a script font for your ‘signature’ or leave it blank and sign after the Contract document has been printed.

8. The last step in creating Contract templates in Google Docs is adding your approved seal. This step is optional. If you want to use your company logo or Institution logo, select ‘insert’ from the menu bar and click “image – Upload from computer”.

You may also use the “search from web” option to find Google images. Now, adjust the positioning of your seal. It may be on the center or right side of your template. Check out the screenshot below.
