How To Create a Syllabus Template In Google Docs?
Even though different kinds of templates, such as albums, holidays, business, calendars, recipes, and meeting notes, are available in Google Docs, there is no built-in template for the syllabus. Instead, you can try certain workarounds, like editing an existing template already in the browser or creating a template from scratch.
Using Third-Party Providers
You can reuse a syllabus template already available in Google Docs. To create a syllabus template format in Google Docs using third-party providers, follow the below steps.
1. Open Google Docs and sign in to your account.
2. Create a blank Document.
3. Search for “Syllabus Template” on the web browser and select your desired template from the search results.
4. You can either download it online and open it in Google Docs, or you can simply copy it and paste it into your Google Docs.
5. You can then decide on requiring it or delete or edit whatever is not relevant to your syllabus. Using the menu bar at the top of the screen, you can customize the table, fonts, and colors.
Note: Make sure you have the basic information in your syllabus template in Google Docs, such as
- Course name, Course Schedule, Course code, and Credit hours
- A short overview of the course about what it covers
- The objective of the course tells what the student will learn after taking the course
- The Prerequisites of the course
- Required resources, textbooks, or materials
6. You can then share this syllabus template with multiple collaborators.
Create from scratch
For creating a syllabus template format in Google Docs from scratch, follow the below instructions.
1. Open your Google Docs document.
2. Type the course code and title with the font ‘Arial’ and a size of 14 in ALL CAPS, bold and centered. Stick with the same font and style for every course and title you add as mentioned below.

3. Type a clear description of what concepts or topics you will cover in this course with words not exceeding 30 words. See the screenshot below.

4. Make a list of bullet points following the statement “By the end of the course, students will be able to” that mention what skills or knowledge students will acquire from this course in terms of learning outcomes. Check out the below screenshot for your reference.

5. Then, type the structure of the syllabus, such as the method of presentation of course material, labs, tutorials, and web-based platforms, with 120 characters not bold or italicized. See below.

6. Then, you can type any prerequisites or other requirements single-spaced in regular/normal (not bold or italicized) 12-point Arial.

7. Include whether the course is graded on a percentage or pass/fail basis and the kind of assignments, assessments, or exams students will require.
8. Then, you can include assessment/evaluation criteria for each assignment and the core criteria for each component, including lab, group discussion participation, or studio work/field work paragraphs. For all of these, use “Times New Roman” or ‘Arial’, and the font size should be 12. Check out the screenshot below.

9. Insert tentative schedule of the topics to be covered on a weekly basis

10. You should also include other content, such as attendance policy, communication policy, and course calendar.

[Whether the course graded on a percentage or pass/fail basis? What kind of assignments, assessments, or exams will be required of students? How do the assessment and evaluation components execute the stated learning outcomes? What will each component of the course evaluation be worth (mark breakdown)? What are the assessment/evaluation criteria for each assignment (i.e., on what basis will students be graded)? How the assessments or exams should be whether it is objective type or written test. Provide the core criteria for each component, including lab, group discussion participation, or studio work/fieldwork.]
