You can use any of these existing templates to create a Google Docs template. If you already have a Google Docs document open in one of the Docs editors, click File > New > From template and select the template you want.

You can also create a Google Docs template from Google Drive. To do so, click New, and next to Google Docs, point to the Right arrow, and click From a template. In this way, you can create Google Docs template from Google Drive itself.

Step 1: You can either create a new document in Google Docs or open an existing document and make the changes you want for your template.

Note: If your template document is in a shared drive, check the sharing settings on the shared drive. Sharing restrictions can prevent people from accessing the template. See Share and collaborate in shared drives.

Step 2: On the Google Docs home screen, navigate to the top right corner of the screen and click Template gallery and select your organization name. If you can’t find the Template gallery, go to “Display or hide Template gallery”

Step 3: Now click “Submit template“.

Note: If you do not have permission to modify the sharing settings of your template, then you won’t be able to submit a template.

For doing so, you need a G-suite account so that you can create a fillable template in Google Docs. To create a fillable Google Docs template, follow the below steps.

Step 1: Open Google Docs and sign in to your account.

Step 2: You can either start a document from scratch with a blank document or open a document you’d made in the past and copy it into a new document. You can also use one of the inbuilt templates in Google Docs.

Step 3: If you wish to create a fillable form in Google Docs, instead of using placeholders for the text you wish to fill by your collaborators, you can type something you’ll remember to replace. For instance, ‘XX’ for dates, ‘NAME’ for a spot where you’ll type in a name, or “lorem ipsum” for areas where you’ll type long-form text.

Step 4: Once done, give a title to this Google Docs fillable template.

Step 5: With a G Suite account, you can save that document as a template in your Google account. Click the “Template Gallery” button in the top right of the Google Docs screen and select your company’s name.

Step 6: Then, click the “Submit Template” button. Select the fillable form template you’ve made, add a title and category for it. Now click ‘Submit’ to add this template to your entire company’s G Suite account.

Your collaborators can use this fillable Google Docs template anytime they need it.
