There is no direct feature to alphabetize in Google Docs. But, it is possible with the help of the “Doc Tools” add-on.
Well, as the initial step let’s follow the below steps to install the “Doc Tools” add-on in Google Docs that helps to sort Google Docs.
- Open your Google Docs document.
- Click on the Add-ons menu –> Select the Get add-ons option.

3. Search for the Doc Tools and then click on the Doc Tools add-on.

4. Click on the Install button to install the Sorted Paragraphs add-on.

5. Click on the Continue button, Choose your Google account on the next screen, and then click on the Allow button to give permission to the add-on to access your Google account to install the Doc tools add-on.
Now you are done with the installation of the Doc tools add-on.
Now to use the Doc tools add-on to alphabetize in Google Docs, you need to follow the below steps.
- First, highlight the Paragraph that you want to alphabetize.

2. Click on the “Add-ons” menu.
3. Click on the Doc tools option –> Choose “Sort the selection ascending” or “Sort the selection descending” based on your requirement.

Or, you can click on Add-ons –> Doc Tools –> Choose Start option –> Click on the “Sort A to Z” or “Sort Z to A” option based on your requirement.

Now, you have successfully alphabetized in Google Docs.

Note: Earlier, we were using the “Sorted Paragraphs” add-on to alphabetize the paragraphs or lists in Google Docs. But now Google has blocked the Sorted Paragraphs add-on. So it is not possible to use the Sorted Paragraphs add-on. But as an alternative, you can use the “Doc Tools” add-on.
If you will try installing the “Sorted Paragraphs” add-on, you will get the error message “This app is blocked”.
